WARNING: This is a LONG post. I've been MIA for too long, so I'm making up for it. I'm also bored.
So much for posting consistently, huh? Well, along with losing 45 pounds, finishing all my WIPs, starting some new projects, and beginning my Christmas knitting in August, rather than November, one of my resolutions is to post a bit more frequently. I think a quick overview of the projects that I've been working on in the past months will suffice.
My dad's sweater was an adventure in itself. First, I've never done argyle before, so I made a few misjudgments in execution. I've learned now that even though it makes for less finishing, carrying yarn behind is not the best answer for argyle. I just watched a video clip online from Knitting Daily on how to handle colors when working with argyle and intarsia. I've learned my lesson, but to be fair, I kept the carried strands loose, and it doesn't look bad it just doesn't look as good as it could have. It really does look nice, especially on him. The blocking took most, if not all, of the puckering out. I had to do some design tweaking at the end, which kind of really sucked. I had finished everything, (your standard pattern, front and back, sewn together, then PU & knit a rib around arms and neck) including sewing up the hem at the bottom, and he tried it on. It was just long enough, but the hemmed edge looked funny- it was warped and odd shaped, so my mom kindly said, "Becki, why don't you do a ribbed edge like you did for the arms and neck? It'd look so much better, and it would make it longer on him, too." Thanks, MOM. So I did. Cut the stitching for the hem (made a hole in the fabric, cuz I cut the wrong strand, and had to darn it) pulled out the CO edge (yes, the CO edge. F@$%.) Ribbed out the hem, then PU all the stitches and knit a two inch rib at the bottom. For all the hassle, I'm so glad I did. It looks MUCH better. Thanks again, Mom...
Projects to come: Mimi's Arwen Cardigan, two Rasta tams, one baby sweater, three pairs of socks (two for me, one for Ed), and countless others. As usual. :)
Christmas was fun, and both Jessica and I got a really great surprise from Mom-- guess what she bought for us? YARN SWIFTS! Yes, you read right, we both now have gorgeous, wooden umbrella swifts to use whenever the mood strikes. Or at least a long as we have unwound yarn! Oh, we were both so excited, even though our brother Jonah kept making comments on how ineffective the "umbrella" would be in the rain.... Lol. I was so excited to try it out, and I absolutely love it!
We spent some time in Wausau with my grandparents on my dad's side. Rachael (youngest sister) brought her boyfriend of 9 mos (?) and I brough Ed, and the four of us did some winter hiking in snow that was mid shin for the tall boys, but knee-high for Rachael and me! It was fun, and we got some great pictures of all of us. :)

Ed using me as a sled Earlier last year (nothing like going out of order) my roommate Nicole and I decided to get kittens, and we picked out two babies from the same litter- a little grey and white one Nicole named Pippin Fitzpatrick, and a mottled brown and black one that Ed dubbed "The Incredible Hulk". The name suits him, as at 5 months, he's just as big if not bigger than Rachael's two new kittens, who are at least a month if not two months older than he is. They're growing up, and getting into trouble, and Ryleigh, my brother Josh's eldest, has already laid claim to Hulk as "her" kitten. The two of them! I've never seen a cat take so much from a three-year-old girl before. Partners in crime, those two!

Hulk on the Prowl Christmas morningAlright, enough of this. I have things I should be doing! Like grocery shopping, and buying books for the new semester. (Ugh!) 18 credit hours. Class from 8am-6:30pm almost every day. And I'm job hunting. So much for free time...
