A week in the woods

Friday I returned from a week with my parents in the North Woods of Wisconsin.  I did quite a bit of project finishing, in between the fishing and boating, and "Illinois" fire building.  There's a new album in the photo albums, so check it out!  Lots of fun times.

I finally finished Mom's CPH-- she wanted pockets, so I've added those, and am going to add a bit of orange trim to them soon.  (Tweaking.  The wonders of living with the person who knits for you.)  I've got lots of wonderful pictures of her wearing the sweater.

Sometime last summer, I made the mistake of starting the Boobholder pattern in Malabrigo... I know, I know, stupid idea, right?  Warm wonderful wool in the midst of muggy, hot Chicago summers.  Needless to say, it landed in the realm of forgotten projects.  Well, I brought it with to Minocqua, since the weather is usually much cooler there.  It's finished!  Well, almost.  Just have to sew in the ends, and then put it back into the closet until Autumn when I can wear it.  Haha.

I started a backless halter top for my sister, with eyelets for criss-crossed ribbon in the back.  It's a really simple, but cute design.  I'll have it up for sale soon.  :)

A quick, neat knit that I finished is the Formal Boot Bag from Bag Style.  It was a commission for my friend Nicole, and it turned out perfectly.  I'll have photos of that within the week.  It's done in the Tahki Donegal Tweed, in this deep, dark green with the unfelted panel on it in a bright lime green.  The buttons are little silver spirals and the handle is actually a choke-collar that I bought from the pet aisle at the dollar store!

Just a quick sum up.  :)

Oh!  A woman purchased four of my Little Greenies Dolls to sell at a craft fair in PA, in August!  It's a sale, and good PR!  I'm sending along a batch of business cards to give out to anyone who's interested.  I'm so excited!

That's about all for now.  Dad's BBQ is going on downstairs so I should return.  :)

Why I have not been knitting...

While my younger sis seems to be knittin right along, I on the other hand seem to be stuck in the knitting mire so to speak. There are just so many other things going on, that sitting down for a minute to get a stitch knit seems nearly impossible these days.
Things like Spring Cleaning which involved painting the kids room...
  Img_0614 Img_0623 Img_0629 Img_0620
Planting new and interesting plants...
Img_0605
Camping...
Img_0655 Img_0662 Img_0687
A myriad of family parties, new babies, and other such fun stuff...

And while all of that is wonderfully fun, I do miss just taking some time to sit and knit.
Sorry for the inundation of family life, but in lieu of knitting pics, I thought I would at least try to give you something fun to see!
Part of my spring cleaning has been destashing, so soon I will be selling some of those yarns that I have had lingering for projects long forgotten. I promise next time there will be knitting!

Sour design flaw

When I first started designing the lemon hat for my Little Greenies, I imagined a gradual increase from the left side to the top, and then straight across the top of the head, and decreasing into the right side.  It makes sense, right?  Well, in theory at least.  In execution, it was a little less than perfect.... In fact, to my dismay, my boyfriend Ed took on look at the hat on the doll and started to laugh uproariously!  I was furious for his reaction, but folks, he had every reason to react the way he did.  Ladies and gentlemen, the first draft of the lemon head.  Feel free to guffaw.

Titty lemon head1

Yes, instead of my precious little lemon head, my dear little greenie is either sporting the Princess Leia look, or she has two boobs on either side of her head.  Needless to say, that design was totally scrapped and I now have a much more lemon-like design completed. It's the funny little things like this that make knitting mistakes bearable!

Save the Rainforest

So here's the deal: I have designed these dolls and started to make them with the intent to sell. I will be putting the pattern up for sale within the next few weeks, as well as selling the dolls themselves on Etsy.com (see left sidebar for a link to my shop). What I want to do is take a portion of the profits and donate it to different organizations involved with conservation efforts.

The dolls are made with flat bottoms and an optional weight inside so they will sit on the edge of a desk or shelf, but are still squishy and soft and adorable. I'm in the process of designing more hats and clothes for them, including t-shirts with flower motifs and more fruit, veggie, and flower themed hats! If you have any more ideas, share them!

You can help!

By buying the patterns or the dolls, you are directly helping to save a portion of rainforest from being chopped down, or saving the natural habitat of thousands of wildlife from being destroyed for commercial use.

There is another way you can help, without paying a cent. I need help deciding on what organization to donate to! Have any ideas? I'd love to hear them.
